Bonavox Spotlight: Samantha Curley
Bonavox: Samantha, tell us how you ended up at Bonavox?
Samantha Curley: Several years ago I was leading outreach and communications for a local community group when a friend of the principals at Bonavox (who was part of the community group) asked me if I would consider working in communications consulting. This question piqued my interest and I ended up interviewing with Ron and finding a home at Bonavox. For over two years I worked directly with the IT department of a well-known consumer goods company on their information security change strategy. Since the COVID-19 crisis, I’ve transitioned to leading Bonavox’s content marketing and social media strategies.
What’s the best part of your job?
There are so many great parts of working for Bonavox. I’m proud to work for and represent a company that believes 100% of its employees are human – and treats them as such. Bonavox’s current work around “The Happiness Equation” and injecting empathy back into the workplace is particularly inspiring and exciting to me.
If I had to pick just one thing though, I would say the best part of my job is working with Ron and the rest of the Bonavox team. Every day I get to capture the many years of experience, insight, and stories that everyone brings to the table and share them with current and potential clients on social media, email, and through white papers and blog posts.
If you could wave a magic wand and every client would instinctively do or know one thing related to change management, what would it be?
People don’t actually fear change. What does freak them out is not knowing what’s going to happen to them, or be expected of them in the process. If you take the time to understand what motivates the people you work with and communicate authentically and transparently with them, your stakeholders can easily become your biggest change advocates.
Bonavox prioritizes a work-life balance with each of its consultants. What does this look like for you personally?
I love building immersive experiences and community through the arts. In addition to my work at Bonavox, I lead an artist collective for underrepresented artists in Los Angeles and am also an independent film producer. Every year since 2013, I’ve helped organize an annual field trip for people from around the country to attend the Sundance Film Festival together. Pre-COVID, I played on a recreational women’s basketball team. I’m also an avid sourdough bread baker and love to travel with my husband.
What’s something you appreciate about Bonavox that not everyone would know about us?
Two or three times a year we get the whole Bonavox team together for dinner and Ron has exceptional taste in fine dining. Thanks to Bonavox, I’ve sampled some of the best food in Los Angeles.
What are you looking forward to right now?
My husband and I started quarantine by having to cancel a highly-anticipated trip to Australia to visit our best friends who recently moved there. I can’t wait to reschedule this vacation!
