These 5 Questions Will Tell You If You Need External Change Support

How would you even know if your company needed external support to manage change successfully?

A huge percentage of change initiatives, 70% according to the Harvard Business Review, fail to meet their intended goals. We created this 5 question diagnostic test to help you know if it’s time to call an expert.

1 - Are your employees dissatisfied?

Some companies conduct annual employee satisfaction surveys to help them answer this question. If you aren’t currently doing that, Bonavox can help you create one. Another way to gauge employee dissatisfaction is if you’re experiencing a high turnover or transfer rate of employees leaving the company, or a particular department. This is a red flag that you likely need external change management support. And if you still aren’t sure if you’re employees are satisfied, we think that alone is justification for bringing in outside support.

2. Are you missing a plan?

Things at your company, or your department, are changing all the time. You launch a new product, your IT department is rolling out new software, employees are starting to work at the office again and you need to adapt for COVID safety. If you are in the midst of a change (which you almost always are) you should have a plan. If you don’t have a written change plan in place, start looking for outside support to help you craft one.

3. Are you lacking internal resources?

Similar to #2 above, if you don’t have specific people or a department dedicated to handling change management and communications, you will likely need outside support. There’s a reason people become experts in change management – it’s so you don’t have to!

4. Are you stalled or stuck?

If a change rollout or initiative is behind schedule, losing support, or at a standstill, that’s another clear indicator to call an expert.

5. Was there an inciting incident?

This could mean a news story, earnings report, or negative press. If something happens that is going to require an immediate and/or urgent response, don’t handle it alone. Call in a partner to respond to the moment!
